The form of this novel is totally unique in that is is told through a movie script. Despite its unconventional story telling method, you will be hooked from Act I, Scene I.

"Why doesn't this face register as American? Is it because we make the story too complicated? Because we haven't figured out how yet. Whether it's a tragedy or a comedy or something in between. If we haven't cracked the code of what it's like to be inside this face, then how can we explain it to someone else?" (Yu 228).
